IATF what’s new and how Automotive suppliers prepare for it?

Hey all the lovely people out there, I am here again with a new blog to talk about some exciting fresh facts of IATF. And side by side, we will also read out how the Automotive suppliers prepare for enabling the changes or creations. So, at first let’s go with the flow of administrative changes of how it has evolved and then we will directly come to the technical changes or creations.

As you know, change is somewhat necessary in anything and everything to get ourselves accustomed with the revitalization and also to keep our modernization alive. Thus IATF is also nothing different; it also needs some updating changes with the evolution of time. So check this blog out to swim with the vigor with me.

Soon by the September of 2018, all the standards of IATF, introduced in the year of 2016, will be moderated. They need advancements for various facts and there are around over 67,000 suppliers who need to come under the guideline of this transition.

Some of the big changes that the Automotive suppliers should meet are:-

Management Accountability for Key Performance Indicators or KPIs

Like if you are playing a board of chess and you set a step, and if you miss on the action or it is proved wrong, you should think inside about the step played, so you can analyze the upcoming step to keep safe. This is an example of how or what the present management accountability for KPIs works. They need to set a target for work activities, and if it is not met with the target, a detailed report has to be submitted stating the failure.

Risk Management

In 2015 a huge facelift was received for IATF certification required compliance with ISO 9001 for quality management systems. When there is a glare of quality, it is bound to come with some amount of risk. The risk is not a one-way thing, it can arise from various sources. Like, when we cook and serve in hotels, we can come under sheer risk if the water used is non-edible; if the utensils and kitchen are not kept hygienic; if the cook is not well-dressed which can prevent from body sweat and hair; if the eating environment is not hygienic and clean. Then, as a result, customers of the restaurant can catch diseases and will not recommend the restaurant to any other, and the restaurant will run out of customer with its bad reputation. The same way, in our real life IATF certification compliance with ISO 9001 for quality management systems, the Risk Management needs to be done in the following steps.

  1. We should safeguard our products.
  2. To begin using embedded software to validate company’s products is a good start to prevent the risks.
  3. Reducing the defects and delay in product manufacture is another safeguard termed as manufacturing feasibility
  4. Strong employee training can cover most of your manufacturing defects and risks for the future.
  5. Following the new IATF 16949 requirements to reduce quality risk through non-conformance management for organizations.

Audit Requirements for IATF 16949

A company’s internal and supplier audit processes are very crucial and mandatory with various audit requirements. It needs to be improved with a number of requirements such as product auditors, manufacturing process auditors and quality management system.

Like you know that when we go through an examination, we get our exam hall invigilated by our institute teachers, which is accounted as the first party audit where they prevent the most of the disputes from arising. Then the same board exam paper is sent to the board teachers who check and provide scores against the answers, and this then can be accounted as second party audit. Now the scores they will obtain will be very genuine and will reflect the candidate’s depth in the subject. And thus from the beginning only we are used to with a cross audit or double or multilayered audit for the betterment of the end result.

Thus, the different requirements and audit module come up with the following for a fine result with very less or no dispute.

  1. Audit with an automotive process approach.
  2. Thinking beforehand based on upcoming probable risks that can arise.
  3. Requirements for relevant AIAG Automotive Core Tools.
  4. Organization’s customer-specific requirements that will bring an understanding of the market demand so one company can bring the best product to the consumer.
